The Warwick Castle Science Fair is returning BIGGER AND LOUDER than before after popular demand, and will take place on Friday 24th March 2017. Once again we will be joined by the Big Bang Fair, Mad Science and many other UK science organisations covering numerous topics that are aligned with the curriculum!

It is paramount that pupils can continue to learn outside the classroom, and therefore we endeavour to inspire pupils and support teachers to make sure that the learning never stops!

Meet the Monarchy

MEET THE MONARCHY
Suitable for: KEY STAGE 1

Curriculum Links:

Join the History Team as they take you on a guided tour of four of England’s most important Kings and Queens. You will be introduced to each monarchy, from Richard III to Queen Elizabeth II. Discover how they influenced Warwick Castle, the funny and gory stories behind each King/Queen, and why they are important to us today.

Stories and Shields

CASTLE LIFE
Suitable for: KEY STAGE 1 & 2

Curriculum Links:  History

Costs: £2.50 per pupil

Description: Castle Life will explore the social and cultural life of the medieval period in particular relating to the preparations for battle in the War of the Roses. The History Team will teach the group about those working for the Kingmaker including a blacksmith, seamstresses, and a treasurer, and their role in preparing for the Wars of the Roses.

Duration: 30 minute tour

Swords and Shields

ATTACK AND DEFENCE
Suitable for: KEY STAGE 2
From 1066 AD

Costs: £2.50 per pupil

Description: Explore Warwick Castle’s mediaeval defences, and find out how the fortress would have protected itself during times of war, and how Castles have developed and changed over time! This tour will walk you around the outside of the building and you will get to hear about the nasty tricks and surprises defenders of the Castle had up their sleeves to protect themselves during a siege!

Kingmaker

STUDENT ULTIMATE TOUR
Suitable for: KEY STAGE 2

Curriculum Links: History
914AD to present day

Costs: £2.50 per pupil

Description: This tour will explore the castle’s history by presenting key facts and figures in a chronological manner. It aims to provide a general understanding of the changes to the castle over time and introduces some of the castle’s most important owners. 

Duration: 30 minute tour
Capacity: Bookable for a maximum of 35 people per 1 hour time slot.

 


Power of the Monarchy

STORIES & SHIELDS WORKSHOP
Suitable for: PRE SCHOOL - KEY STAGE 1 

Curriculum Links: ARTS & CRAFTS AND HISTORY

Costs: £5 per pupil

Description: Have you ever seen a Princess before? Pupils will be immersed in a magical world of legend and myth and meet a Princess! This interactive workshop is perfect for creative pupils who will get the opportunity to create their own family crest! Pupils also get to take shields back to their school!

Duration: 45 minute workshop

Crime & Punishment

SWORDS & SHIELDS WORKSHOP
Suitable for: KEY STAGE 2

Curriculum Links: Design Technology & Art & Design

Costs: £5 per pupil

Description: Pupils will learn the art of sword fighting with our Warwick Warrior before creating their own family crest. Pupils also get to take shields back to their school!

Duration: 45 minute tour

Forces of Physics

POWER OF THE MONARCHY
Suitable for: KEY STAGE 2

Curriculum Links:  History
From 1066 AD

Costs: £2.50 per pupil

Description: Explore Warwick Castle’s 1,000 year history to discover how the castle has shaped the ever-changing development of monarchy and power. The History Team will take you through four case studies of monarchs and how Warwick Castle has either supported or challenged their power, from William the Conqueror to King Charles I. This tour will take you to areas of the castle influenced specifically by monarchs.

Ultimate Tour  

CRIME AND PUNISHMENT
Suitable for: KEY STAGE 2

Curriculum Links:  History and Citizenship
From 1066AD

Costs: £2.50 per pupil

Description: Delve deep into the dark and bloodthirsty history of Warwick Castle to discover how crimes have been punished in different ways over the last 1,000 years. From journeying deep into the castle’s GAOL, to standing trial in the Great Hall, find out how the Earls of Warwick would have judged criminals, what type of crimes were tried, and how the guilty would have met a grisly end!

Taken By: This tour is led by a member of our dedicated History Team.
Duration: 30 minute tour
Capacity: Bookable for a maximum of 35 people per 1 hour time slot. 


 Trebuchet

FORCES OF PHYSICS: THE SCIENCE OF BATTLE WORKSHOP
Suitable for: KEY STAGE 2

Curriculum Links:  Science Physics (with History & Design Technology).

Costs: £5 per pupil

Description: Discover how Warwick Castle’s mediaeval weapons act upon various forces of physics. Pupils will be questioned on the forces that interfere with the firing range of weapons used in war. Especially, they will measure how projection and leverage can influence the distance, speed and height of an object. The workshop includes a live demonstration of our Mighty Trebuchet (during daily showings) and provides a hands-on approach that will allow them to interpret forces for themselves!

Duration: 45 minute workshop
Capacity: Bookable for a maximum of 35 people per 1 hour time slot.

Description: It is 1471 and Warwick Castle is locked in the bitter war between the Houses of York and Lancaster! Join the History Team and take a journey through mediaeval life. You will discover the secrets from the mediaeval battlefield, to the life of the workers and women at the court of Warwick the Kingmaker. This tour is an interactive tour through the Kingmaker attraction.

DescriptionBe immersed in the history of battle as your students will learn the art of war, sword fighting and battle strategy. This workshop will teach facts from English battles, where statistics will leave you shocked and a thirst to know more! Humour mixed with blood curdling facts and brilliant for classes studying History and Drama - even teachers can play a part!

HISTORY WEEK

22-26 May 2017

Join us for heaps amount of mediaeval history where we will be turning up the level!

 Your ticket to include:

  • Three new shows that can only be seen during history week!                                    
  • We will look at events in history narrated by a member of the history team animated by actors including the trial and execution of Anne Boleyn.
  • Re-enactment of Agincourt – we will be ask students to pick up a bow and arrow and recreate a scene from history and firing the first volley in the battle! Bows and Arrow additional cost.
