Overview
Some of the best lessons are outside the classroom
It’s amazing what you can achieve in just one day away from the classroom. A school trip to Warwick Castle will challenge your pupils, fill them with enthusiasm and let them experience mediaeval history and culture first hand.
Warwick Castle 2008 Educational Programme
Working in collaboration with practicing teachers and educational advisers, we have created a programme of events and activities for pupils of Key Stages 1 to 4. With so much to see and experience, and supported by our educational resources, Warwick Castle provides an outstanding environment to stimulate your students' imaginations.
At Warwick Castle we’ve got it covered: we can help with risk assessment, free teacher visits prior to your trip and educational resources to help you get the most out of the day. Importantly, your pupils can take part in various structured activities that are linked to the National Curriculum and specific programmes of study.
School Tours
Tours can be tailored to cover areas of particular interest to your group. Each private tour lasts for 90 minutes (or less if required). There is a small supplementary charge of £1 per person (minimum group size of 15 people).
Tours are subject to availability. They are not available on certain weekends, bank holidays and school holidays.
To book your private tour or for further information, please call 0870 442 2373
School Talks
Pupils will be treated to a presentation from the Master of the Trebuchet who will explain the preparation and operation of the machine. And, after listening to fascinating siege stories, pupils will witness for themselves the jaw-dropping spectacle of the trebuchet in action!* Trebuchet talks cost just £1 per pupil.
Bird of Prey talks are also available between Easter and the end of October for a charge of £1 per pupil.
The event is supported by worksheets specific to History curriculum modules 1a, 2a and 4b.
Under Siege dates for 2008 are coming soon.
*The trebuchet will be launched twice daily as part of a public show.

Resources
In consultation with practicing teachers, we have developed a range of imaginative and stimulating classroom resources to support the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 to 4.
A resource pack will be supplied to each school free of charge upon booking an educational visit to Warwick Castle
Spellbound Literacy Trail – Key Stage 1 and 2
Let your pupils learn while they’re having fun exploring the castle on our Spellbound Literacy Trail. Armed with their worksheets, they are encouraged to use their observational skills while using their interpretation and explanation skills to describe their experiences, thoughts and ideas. Topics covered include: verbs, nouns, adjectives, adverbs, antonyms and compound words. They’ll love it!
Victorian Britain – Key Stage 2
This history pack transports pupils back into Victorian society for a glimpse of life at Warwick Castle. Pupils are introduced to Frances Eyelyn Maynard (Countess of Warwick), at a social event in 1898. Pupils can walk through the rooms and gain an insight into life for the privileged.
The Mill and Engine House – Key Stage 1 and 2
This resource pack complements study of the Science and Technology curriculum by considering Warwick Castle’s Mill as a means of generating electricity. Pupils are taught the workings of cogs and gears at the mill and the various forces and motions of its mechanisms. This pack also contains cross-curricular links to English, Maths, PSHE, Geography and Art.
Mediaeval Britain – Key Stage 3
Our Mediaeval Britain resource pack allows students to play the role of attack and defence soldiers as they learn the tactics of mediaeval battle. Students will be able to rate Warwick Castle’s defences from attack and will be asked to suggest strategic offensive options their imaginary army can implement in order to conquer the Castle. Students will take a look at different areas of the Castle, analyzing its defensive strengths and weaknesses.
Business of Leisure – GCSE and A-Level
Business of Leisure is designed to support the study of Leisure and Tourism, this resource provides students with detailed information on Warwick Castle’s commitment to customer service as well as an insight into the marketing strategies employed at the attraction. The resource contains a range of teacher and student notes which your students will find informative and valuable in assisting them with their studies.

Free teacher tickets
We ask that children are supervised at all times. To aid in this supervision you will receive a free teacher ticket with every 10 secondary school pupil tickets booked or for every 5 primary student tickets booked.
Help with your risk assessment
It goes without saying that the safety of your students is paramount. We endeavour to make your visit as comfortable, rewarding and safe as possible. Take a look at our risk assessment advice sheet.
Information Sheet for Schools
We understand that it is not always easy to communicate the schedule of your school trip to excitable students. So to help teachers list all of the important details in a simple and easy to understand format, we have developed an Information Sheet for Schools.
As well as allowing you to provide your students with emergency contact details, timings and meeting points; our information sheets contain useful park information including the location of Lost Property, First Aid Centres and All Day Lockers. Simply download the Information Sheet for Schools template, fill in the relevant information and then distribute photocopies to your students prior to your arrival.
