General Information
Time Planning
We strongly recommend you allow at least 4 hours for your visit, particularly in the summer when there is so much outside entertainment.
Arrival
Groups already in possession of pre-purchased tickets may go through the turnstiles on arrival. For larger groups we recommend that the group leader keeps hold of all tickets and does not hand out individually to each member of the party. Groups without a reservation should apply for tickets from Group Reception - group rates will not, in this instance, apply.
The following facilities are available at the Stables admissions area:
- Toilet facilities
- Bureau de Change
- Gift Shop
- Coach House Restaurant
- Main Castle entrance
- Cash machine/ATM
Disabled Access
Due to the nature of the Castle and its mediaeval structure, there are access limitations for wheelchair users. Information that will enable you to plan your visit in advance, including parking, accessibility and toilet facilities, is available on the Accessibility page or by contacting the Castle Office on 0870 442 2393.
Dogs
Registered assistance dogs only are allowed in the Castle and Grounds.
Refreshments
Snacks, cream teas and a variety of hot meals are available within our two restaurants. There is an open air barbecue in the summer (weather permitting) and outdoor picnic areas.
Gift Shops
There are three gift shops at the Castle all offering a superb range of interesting and quality gifts and souvenirs.

Why not extend your visit to the Castle by joining one of our themed evenings. Dine with the most powerful man in history with our Kingmaker's Feast, enjoy a fun-filled evening of surprises with the Highwayman's Supper, or experience an evening of the supernatural with Ghosts & Ghouls-Alive.
